July Book Review
The Choice: Embrace the Possible
Dr. Edith Eva Eger
The Choice is one of those rare books that truly stays with you. Dr. Eger shared her story of enduring unimaginable suffering and somehow emerging not hardened, but deeply compassionate. She wrote with such wisdom about freedom, responsibility, forgiveness and the quiet power of choice.
I was especially moved by her reminder that while we cannot choose what happens to us, we can choose, over time, how we carry our pain. Grief has no timetable and healing is not about “moving on.” It is about gently making room for hope, meaning and even moments of joy alongside our sorrow.
One of the greatest gifts this book offers is permission to acknowledge suffering without allowing it to become the whole story. Dr. Eger reminded us that our losses shape us, but they do not have to define who we are. Her life was a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a reminder that even after experiencing great suffering, it is possible to find courage, compassion and grace.
I cannot recommend The Choice highly enough. Whether you are grieving, supporting someone who is, or simply seeking wisdom and hope, this is a book you’ll carry with you long after you’ve turned the final page.
Dr. Edith Eva Eger leaves behind a profound legacy.
