Preparing For The Anniversary Of Your Loved One’s Passing

How to prepare for the anniversary of your loved one’s passing.
As difficult as the anniversary of the death may be, both research and practical experience suggest that the anticipation of the anniversary of the death may be worse, as the fear of not knowing how the day will go can create anxiety and rumination. You might want to consider some form of ritual of remembrance to mark the occasion while cultivating self compassion.
01. Recognition of your loved one.
Consider doing something that honors your loved one: light a candle, write a letter of appreciation to your person, and share a special picture and remembrance of him.
02. Reconstruction of your identity.
Begin a reflective writing piece about who your loved one was to you and who you were to your loved one, who you are now in the midst of your mourning, and who you hope and strive to be in the future by linking the past, present and future.
03. Reaffirmation of the community of concern.
Extend a simple invitation for a time to come together with those who know and love you and your loved one. Participate in collective sharing with a message of hope, a simple poem and a thought that will touch your heart. Create a healing circle of shared meditation, moments of silence, music, mutual concern and love.
