Zoe Clark-Coates Bereaved Parent Quote

Remembering Our Babies

Remembering Our Babies
“When bereaved parents talk about the
child they have lost, they aren’t looking for
sympathy, and they certainly don’t want
your pity; they just long to bring their
beloved child into the present day and not
be pressured into leaving their memory in
the past.”
~ Zoe Clark-Coates
Sharing memories and continuing to talk about someone we have lost can be part of what grief researchers describe as “continuing bonds.”
It is one way we maintain a connection with someone whose physical presence is no longer part of our lives. It isn’t about refusing to accept the loss or remaining stuck in grief. It is about finding ways to carry love and connection forward.
We’re not trying to hold on to pain.
We’re holding on to love.
Talking about our babies doesn’t mean we’re stuck. It doesn’t mean we’re broken.
And it doesn’t mean we’re asking for pity.
It means they mattered.
It means they are loved.
It means we are parents whose love did not end when our baby died. 🕊
