Monday Evening Prayer
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
“Our Father”: reminds us that we belong to a loving God and that we are part of a larger family of faith. In grief, we can feel profoundly alone; this prayer gently reminds us that we are not forgotten.
“Hallowed be Thy Name”: turns our hearts toward God’s holiness, presence and faithfulness, even when life feels uncertain or difficult to understand.
“Thy Kingdom Come”: expresses our longing for God’s peace, justice, love and healing to be present in our lives and in our hurting world.
“Give us this day our daily bread”: invites us to focus on today. Grief can make tomorrow feel overwhelming. Sometimes, we only need enough strength and grace for this day.
“Forgive us…as we forgive”: reminds us of the freedom that can come through forgiveness: receiving it, offering it and extending compassion toward ourselves as we navigate loss.
“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”: is a prayer for protection, guidance and strength when sorrow, fear, loneliness or despair feel especially heavy.
Tonight, may you be gentle with yourself.
May you receive the grace you need for this day.
And may you remember that grief is not something you have to navigate alone.
Monday Evening Prayer:
May God hold you close, quiet your heart and give you peace for the night ahead.
