Understanding Acceptance

1. Acceptance means embracing the present – both good and bad – in order to shape the future.

2. Acceptance does not mean that you feel happy about the loss, rather there is an acceptance of the pain and loss you’ve experienced.

3. Acceptance is not about liking a situation. It is about acknowledging all that has been lost and learning to live with the loss.

Characteristics of Acceptance:

* Feeling positive and hopeful

* Seeking out new meaning

* Feeling more secure and relaxed

* Being mindful and present

* Coping and adapting to the circumstances

* Being vulnerable

* Taking care of oneself and practicing self compassion
